Mormon stake celebrates 50th anniversary

Latter day Saints from the Whittier area, friends, neighbors and community members will join for a weeklong celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Whittier stake.

Beginning with the organization of the first LDS Whittier branch or congregation in 1926, the Whittier stake was offici pandora bracelets ally organized on April 26, 1959, by Elders Spencer W. Kimball and Gordon B. Hinckley.

A picnic Saturday will feature games, food and live entertainment at Parnell Park, 15390 Lambert Road. at the Whittier Stake Center, 15265 Mulberry Drive. Sunday. The Beth Shalom choir is welcoming new members, especially women and men to sing soprano and bass. Tuesdays.

Whittier Friends School has openings available

Whittier Friends School, 6726 Washington Ave., provides quality Quaker education to students in grades kindergarten through sixth, along with year round preschool. Children should be at least 2 years old and potty trained.

Both facilities have openings available. May 3 in the courtyard of the church, 13205 Philadelphia St.

There will be free snacks, booths, music and more. To raise funds to combat global hunger, the church is encouraging a donation of $2 per person that will go entirely to Heifer Project International.

Heifer Project is an internationally acclaimed charitable foundation that promotes sustainable use of resources and the eradication of global poverty. Be sure to bring your family and friends to this fun filled charitable event.

Each participating organization will sponsor a table focusing on a specific country or region, and provide an estimated 50 finger food items or craft items that represent the chosen place.

There is no additional cost to host a table. Everyone is encouraged to dress up, play music, hand out information on their organization, sell cultural items, or anything else that maintains the theme of global awareness and/or overcoming pandora bracelets world hunger.
